How to Challenge your Inner Voice to Love More and Hate Less

    October 19, 2018

You will never follow your own inner voice until you clear up the doubts in your mind.”
    ― Roy T. Bennett

I’m fat. I’m lazy. I’m stupid. I’ll never be good enough. Why should I try when I’m just going to fail? Everyone else is better than me. I don’t deserve it.  I haven’t worked hard enough. It’s just not for me. He doesn’t like me.

Do any of these words resonate with you?  These are just a few things that our inner voice can incessantly repeat in our head when we begin to push ourselves past the traditional comfort zone. If we’re insecure and not trusting in our own abilities then we will continue to doubt just how far we can go. In the end the voice that talks in our head becomes our own worst enemy.

    We can all give love.

However, when it comes to our own hopes and dreams we shit all over them and think to ourselves "Oh it’s ok I’m just not good enough to make these happen.” But the truth is we are. The voice in our head is wrong. It’s actually down right rude.

Our negative inner voice can be the clearest indicator of unresolved experiences from our past. It prompts us to go backwards into our own personal history and see our lives through a negative filter. It blinds us from seeing that we are capable of more so in the end we remain stagnant and never face our fears.

But if you’re like me I’m assured that you would love to face your fears and face life head on, as it comes.

So I challenge you to begin so by doing the opposite of what your negative inner voice tells you to do.

    • If your voice tells you that you’re not good enough to get up and make that speech at your best friends wedding then challenge it. Get up there and make that speech.

    • If your voice tells you that you’re too old to go back to college. Do it. Go. Go right now.

    • If you want to ask that beautiful girl out but your voice says she’s to good for you. Do it. Ask her before it’s too late.

    • If you want to start a new exercise program but your voice whispers in your head that you’re out of shape to begin. Please go. In the end your body and mind will thank you.

    • If your hate your job but your voice tells you there will never be anyone else who will hire you, LEAVE.

The truth is you’re capable of doing whatever it is that your heart desires. But whenever we get the urge to try something new the only thing we can think of are all the times we failed. When our inner voice goes off on it’s own tangent our thought process is never completed; As we never get to see that it is all of our “failures” (not really failures but we’ll save that for another day) that guide us to all of our successes.

If you ever want to change that voice you have to challenge it. And yes of course there are bound to be hiccups along the way. The next job you take might not be the right one. As a matter of fact you might go through a time period with no job and it’s going to suck! But that time period will bring you closer to where you want to be. And isn’t that what you want? It has to be because if you didn’t desire a change in your life then you wouldn’t lie around daydreaming about one.

         But guess what?

       There's more.

I have a few other suggestions and I’m going to share them next week. So be sure to come back as we are going to delve deeper into how to identify triggers that make your inner voice want to run and hide into a deep, dark hole and never come back again.

    Stop hiding my friend.

Together we can change that negative inner voice to a supportive one that loves life and all of it’s challenges.
