How to Create Sustainable Success
Has your life not unfolded the way you envisioned it would?
Did you have a preconceived notion of where you thought you should be? A blueprint filled with tedious steps, and only when you achieve the first step can you then transition and move forward. And with each step the blueprint begins to unfold.
The steps are simplistic, but each step becomes harder to achieve without having achieved the step before. First, you transition from high school to college. Then, if you follow the traditional timeline you get married, buy a house and have children. And when your life is perfect, you retire to sunny Florida and blissfully enjoy the last of your days.
But let’s be real here when is life ever perfect?
It’s not. But it can be your own imperfectly, perfect life if you allow it to be. You must throw away the outdated, blueprint for a successful life and start living a life that is aligned with your own truth. A life aligned with your own values.
Your assets or achievements do not make you successful. At one point or another you may have desired designer labels, a fancy car or even a massive home in an exclusive zip code, but then over time you’ve realized that these don't bring the same feeling of success you imagined they would.
What makes you feel successful is feeling loved, feeling like you belong where we are, that your life is filled with meaning and purpose and that with age you continue to grow and evolve.
In order to be successful you must live a life that is guided by your truth and not the truth of someone else.
Well that doesn’t sound difficult, does it? But yes, it can be. And here’s why. Even though your heart knows what’s right the little inner critic, that insecure voice within, often speaks loudest when you’re stepping away from the crowd. It looks at others who are following life’s traditional milestones and prompts you to compare yourself to them. You then wonder are you wrong for not being married? For not having children? For not having gone to college?
You know the answer. You’re not. But still your inner critic prompts you to go down the lonely rabbit hole of despair. Before you know it you’re the only woman (in the whole world) that’s not married, doesn’t have any children and has never been to college. Before you know it your inner voice has just reminded you that you’re an epic failure.
But you’re not! The real truth is you’re a trailblazer throwing caution to the wind and creating your own path. But the role of the trailblazer can be a hard road to follow.
Most trailblazers, like you are completely unaware of the power they possess. And with that you question and shame yourself. You tell yourself you’re wrong and that you don’t belong. You question you’re worth and compare yourself to others in the crowd. You say you don’t care but a subtle reminder will remind you that there’s something different about you and then once again, you’ll feel shame.
But with time, comes wisdom. And that wisdom provides the ability to see you’re journey and just how happy you can be. Success is no longer something that can only be achieved by following a blueprint. Success is something that is found in your heart and when you live a life that is filled with purpose and meaning, you will feel it.
So if you’ve yet to find what makes you feel successful I urge you to think about the experiences that have brought you to where you are today. Have they opened your eyes to the beauty that exists in the world or have they closed you off to protect what’s inside? All of your experiences have weakened you or strengthened you. They’ve silenced you or prompted you to scream louder then you’ve ever screamed before. These experiences guide you to your purpose and it is your purpose that guides you to your own definition of success.
